PhD Candidate in Sociology at the Institute of Social and Political Studies at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (Iesp/Uerj), Master’s Degree in Social Sciences from the Graduate Program in Social Sciences in Development, Agriculture and Society at the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (CPDA/UFRRJ), Bachelor in Social Sciences from Uerj and in History from the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro. Marco Antonio worked as consultant for the National Confederation of Agricultural Workers (Contag) in the field of territorial public policies from 2011 to 2015, as well as agrarian credit public policies from 2015 to 2016. He has also worked as a social manager for the state government’s public Program “Social UPP”/Territories of Peace at the Secretary of State for Social Assistance and Human Rights (SEASDH); and as a collaborator of the National Youth Inclusion Program – Urban Projovem Program from 2007 to 2011. Marco Antonio has been a member of the Centre for Research, Documentation and Reference on Rural Social Movements and Public Policies (CPDA/UFRRJ) since 2006; Member of the Research Group on Social Theory and Latin America (Netsal/Iesp/Uerj) since 2013; and Researcher for the Peasant Truth Commission of Brazil since 2013, Visiting Student in the Institute for Latin-American Studies at Freie Universität Berlin from March to November 2016. As researcher, he has experience in the field of Sociology and History, especially in the following subjects: social movements, collective action, rural issues, human rights and social memory.
